OpenVLC is an open-source, software-defined, flexible, low-cost Visible Light Communication platform. The OpenVLC project is led by Prof. Domenico Giustiniano, leader of the Pervasive Wireless Systems group of the IMDEA Networks Institute, in partnership with University of Houston, SUPSI, TU Delft and IEIIT/CNR, and it is used by top research groups. The software solution is implemented as a Linux driver that can communicate directly with the cape and the Linux networking stack. In OpenVLC, the VLC interface is set up as a new communication interface that can take advantage of the vast range of Linux tools.
